If I’m being entirely honest, during the winter months, it’s extremely rare for you to find anywhere other than glued to my laptop, frantically scouring the internet for cheap flights to – quite literally – anywhere. But it seems as though my relentless rummaging has paid off, because I come bearing a rather desirable destination. A shiny European gem that boasts cheap flights, even cheaper pints, and sunshine all year round.
The best place to travel to from London
The destination in question is Tenerife, the largest and most populated Canary Island. Frequently hailed the ‘Island of Eternal Spring’; Tenerife boasts round-the-clock sunshine, with an average January temperature of 17°C. Sign me up, immediately.
From vast volcanic landscapes and scenic hiking routes to beautiful sandy beaches and picture-perfect towns and villages to meander around; there’s no end of things to see and do in Tenerife. And with a huge array of places to eat and drink, you can rest assured that you’ll be well fed and watered whilst you’re there – without breaking the bank.

So, let’s get down to numbers. How much could a trip to Tenerife set you back? According to cots of living database, Numbeo, visitors can tuck into a three-course meal in mid-range restaurant for under £24 per person. A meal for one at an inexpensive restaurant, however, averages at just £13. A pint of local beer will cost you under £2.50 (yes, you read that correctly). And a local public transport ticket costs just £1.20.
Tenerife is pretty darn wallet-friendly on the flight front, too. It, of course, depends on what time of year you wish to visit, but if you’re feeling spontaneous, you could head there (and back) next week for as little as £30 from London. So, if you need me, folks – I think it’s fairly evident where you’ll be able to find me.
