Another day; another shiny item to add to London’s bursting-at-the-seams trophy cabinet. Today’s accolade comes in the form of a family-run fish and chip shop in South London that’s o-fish-ially been named the best in the UK.
Now, we Brits are pretty passionate about our chippy’s, and so Betway took it upon themselves to settle the debate once-and-for-all and track down the very best in the country. The perfect plaice, if you will. And based on the data they gathered from Google, Trip Advisor and Instagram; a small but mighty spot in Brixton topped the chippy charts.
Fish Lounge is the name, and making high-quality – and flippin’ delicious – fish and chips is the game. Run by local legend, Gus; the family-run restaurant has been standing proudly on Brixton Hill since 1979, capturing the hearts (and the tastebuds) of Londoners and beyond for 25 years.
Based on Betway’s findings; Fish Lounge’s online reviews raved about the food, the service, and the warm and welcoming vibe. Sourcing the ingredients daily to ensure the best-quality grub is delivered is how Fish Lounge has maintained its solid 4.5 score on Trip Advisor. One reviewer gushed: ‘Deliciously fresh food which was beautifully presented. Really good and friendly service. Very enjoyable family meal out. We will definitely go back for another visit.’
The National Fish and Chip Awards back in February may not have included any London chippy’s, but Fish Lounge sounds pretty off the scale to me.
You’ll find the Fish Lounge at 99 Brixton Hill, SW2 1AA.
Nearest station is Brixton.
