One thing we certainly make no secret of here at Secret London is how much we enjoy stuffing our faces with alarmingly good food on an (even more) alarmingly regular basis. I mean, can you blame us? We’ve got some of the best restaurants and food markets in the world right at out fingertips. But look, if we Londoners are getting overwhelmed by the copious amount of options there are to choose from; we can only imagine how it feels for the non-locals.
Choosing where to eat in London town is certainly no mean feat, but this might give you a little nudge in the right direction. A recent study conducted by the travel aficionados over at European Waterways has revealed the very best cuisine to eat whilst in the capital city. And the three cuisines that topped the London food charts may comes as a bit of a surprise.
The study analysed almost 100,000 TripAdvisor restaurant reviews from across the city to decipher the best of the best – you can’t say they weren’t thorough, hey? They recorded the number of restaurants representing each cuisine and then ranked them based on the percentage of five-star restaurants each cuisine had on TripAdvisor. A fool-proof method? Probably not. But with the extensive number of eateries in the capital, you’ve got to start somewhere, I suppose.
The top three cuisines to eat whilst in London
- Jamaican (25.37% of restaurants are rated 5*)
- Greek (22.81% of restaurants are rated 5*)
- German (22.64% of restaurants are rated 5*)
So, there you have it – the top three cuisines to eat when you’re in London. As you can see, Greek food ever so slightly pipped German food to the post. But taking first place is Jamaican food. So, on your next visit to the capital, prepare to indulge in the likes of some seriously delicious ackee & saltfish, curried goat, and jerk chicken.
European Waterways also included some advice to travellers when picking restaurants whilst visiting a city. They included top tips like avoiding pushy greeters, keeping an eye out for where the locals are eating, and prioritising restaurants with fewer dishes on the menu. But our biggest piece advice for you? Have a rummage around the Secret London website, and you’ll find everything you need to survive a trip to the Big Smoke, of course.
