I bloody love brunch. I loved it before I became a mum, and I still love it now I’m a mum – though it usually takes a bit more organising to attend one these days. That is, until the Instagram algorithm served me an ad for Mommy n Me Brunch. A family-friendly brunch I can attend without having to find a babysitter?! Sign me up! (No, seriously, I’ve bought a ticket for a couple of weeks’ time).
Mommy n Me Brunch currently takes place every Sunday between 2-6pm at BRIX restaurant (located between London Bridge and Blackfriars station). The founder, Nadia Lowe, is currently looking for a new London venue to host the event, but it will be at this location until at least the end of August.
So, what happens at a Mommy n Me Brunch?
Well, firstly, it’s only mums and their children allowed, as the brunch is all about mums finding a community and support network. Previous iterations of the event have attracted those with babies up to those with early teens. There’s a cheeky mimosa for mum, a bouncy castle and ball pit for kids, and a welcoming atmosphere to chat, laugh, eat, and play. The family-friendly brunch is an intimate affair – anywhere between five mums and 15 mums – to encourage more conversation, and confidence in your children roaming about.
How did the idea come about?
As you’ve probably noticed from the spelling of ‘Mommy’, the founder of Mommy n Me Brunch is American; however, she lives in London. When Nadia found herself as a newly single mum, in a country far from her own family and support network, she saw an opportunity to build this community. And, while there are many kid-friendly activities in London, as a DJ, she saw a real gap in the market where parties and motherhood are concerned.
“Instead of missing out on DJing gigs, or opportunities to go out and make friends myself, I started my own event that was centred around mothers and children,” said Nadia.
The event has been running on and off since April 2022, though Nadia expressed it’s often difficult to find an appropriate venue with enough space to hold the brunch. However, she will continue to keep going, and she hopes to launch in other cities around the UK.
“[This brunch] is the first of its kind, and I’m really proud that I can create that space for women to let their hair down and meet other mums.”
