Piccadilly Circus has had quite the week, hasn’t it? Last Monday, it had a huge glow up to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and, on Thursday, it only went and turned green – thanks to Sir David Attenborough.
In celebration of the brand new The Green Planet AR Experience, which opened up at Regent Street last week, as well as the Green Planet series, Sir David Attenborough was cast over central London, turning billboards from grey to green. The 20-minuite takeover astonished commuters, and reminded London that: “We must now work with plants, make the world a little greener, a little wilder. If we do this our future will be healthier, safer and in my experience, happier.”
Throughout January, we had our fill of soothing Sunday David Attenborough documentaries to ease in the new year, this time in the form of The Green Planet.
And, the eagle-eyed Londoners out there will have also noticed a big glow-up to Green Park station earlier in January, a it took on a temporary “Green Planet Station” moniker.
Now, if that wasn’t enough, you’ll have the chance to gallop through an augmented reality rainforest, bumping heads with all the fascinating wildlife with a virtual voiceover from Sir David Attenborough himself.
The Green Planet AR Experience has arrived at Regent Street, and will give Londoners the opportunity to embark on an immersive journey through the plants. Oh, and the best part? It’s completely free to attend.
Upon arrival, visitors will receive a smartphone device to gain entrance into the tropical atmosphere. A holographic form of Sir David Attenborough will be your tour guide as you check out six different AR worlds with all their fascinating species along the way.
Saltwater, freshwater, rainforest, desert, seasonal and human biome worlds will all be on the menu for guests to marvel at.
Sir David Attenborough said: “You’ll see that plants can be as aggressive, competitive and dramatic as any living thing on the planet – and how they form intriguing relationships with animals. And you’ll discover why plants are so vital for the future of our planet. Your device is a window into a secret world.”
Scientists and horticultural experts at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew have been involved in the creation to ensure every tree, leaf and flower guests experience is a scientifically accurate representation of the surrounding biomes.
The Green Planet AR Experience is free and powered by EE 5G. You can book your free spot here.
