A special concert takes place in Milan this Easter Sunday.
At the request of the city, Andrea Bocelli will perform live from the historic Duomo di Milano, otherwise known as Milan Cathedral, on April 12.
For Italy in particular, this is sure to be an emotional and momentous occasion. The nation was hit hard very early on during the COVID-19 pandemic. But, from the beginning, solidarity from Italy has been noticed around the world.
After balcony performances and DJ sets, this special Bocelli performance is sure to be the culmination of the nation’s unity. And, everyone around the world can tune in to enjoy the spectacular opera display from one of the most revered names.
Andrea Bocelli’s concert—titled “Music For Hope”—will, of course, not be open for the public to view at the cathedral. However, anyone and everyone on the planet can tune in via YouTube. The performance aims to promote a message of “love, healing, and hope to Italy and the world”.
Alongside 61-year-old Andrea Bocelli will be Duomo di Milano’s organist Emanuele Vianelli, who will perform on the pipes. The Easter concert will range from solo voice pieces and organ combinations. Many holy pieces, such as Ave Maria Setting by Bach/Gounod, will also be included.
“I believe in the strength of praying together; I believe in the Christian Easter, a universal symbol of rebirth that everyone – whether they are believers or not – truly needs right now,” said Andrea Bocelli. “Thanks to music, streamed live, bringing together millions of clasped hands everywhere in the world, we will hug this wounded Earth’s pulsing heart, this wonderful international forge that is reason for Italian pride.”
Andrea Bocelli will also perform for One World: Together At Home. This is a COVID-19 fundraiser event run by Lady Gaga. It airs on US TV (NBC, ABC, and CBS) on April 18.
You can tune into the concert on YouTube from 6pm GMT on Sunday, April 12 (7pm local).
