Over in Rome, tucked away down a street near the iconic Trevi Fountain, you’ll find the charming Agrodolce restaurant. Serving up handmade pasta and traditional Roman food, they focus on high-quality food made with the best ingredients. And now, they’ve opened up a restaurant in London – so you can enjoy authentic Roman food without the airfare.
Popping up in Fitzrovia’s Charlotte Street, Agrodolce is bringing “the timeless charm and rich flavours of Rome [to] the heart of London.” And while London may already be home to a countless number of Italian eateries, we’re hardly going to say no to one as charming as this. And I have to admit to being positively enamoured with the vintage Italian crockery and cutlery, and the impressive green marble tables.
Owned by couple Antonio Russo and Maria Soldatova, diners can expect all of the classics they’ve come to know and love. We’re talking everything from Bruschetta to traditional, Roman street foods like Crocchette di Patate – a croquette with mozzarella and black pepper. And plenty of pasta, too, such as the Tonnarelli Alla Crema Di Zafferano Con Tartare Di Gambero (tonnarelli with saffron cream and prawn tartare) and the Mezzemaniche Alla Carbonara (pasta with guanciale, pecorino cheese and egg).
To wash it all down, choose from a menu of Italian wines and cocktails that span the regions and flavours of Italy. Don’t miss the eponymous cocktail, the Agrodolce spritz with bitter Roma, prosecco and soda. And be sure to save room for dolci – anyone for a classic Tiramisù or some Panna Cotta?
So, save the money you would have spent on plane tickets. Instead, head to Fitzrovia for an authentic taste of Rome right in the heart of London.
