Lace up your trainers and head on out to kick off the event on a high!
We all know running can be great for your mental health but nothing puts us off quite as much as gasping for breath while the other runners nearby jog seamlessly into mile 10. But running doesn’t have to be a zero to 100 sort of thing – as adidas Runners are proving this World Mental Health Day on 10 October.
The adidas Runners community programme have put together a jam-packed evening full of everything mental wellness and they’re encouraging Londoners to get involved. Taking place in east London, it’s the perfect opportunity to benefit both your performance and wellbeing.
Everyone knows that running (and exercise generally) has well-documented benefits for mental wellbeing and that’s what adidas want to focus on. And don’t think you need to be a marathon runner to take part in the (free) day: you can get involved with adidas’ mindfulness event no matter whether you’re an experienced runner or a total newbie.
The day will start with a series of easy-paced runs. With a variety of scenic routes around east London and different distances depending on your experience, it’s a great way to start the event on a high. Each run will be led by the adidas Runners community Captains and Coaches, so there’ll always be an expert on hand to offer advice. Afterwards, head back to Shoreditch’s Protein Studios for a choice of mindfulness workshops.
First up is a Breathing workshop led by Breathpod, which’ll encourage you to learn more about understanding your body and the difference that breathing correctly can make. Breathing acts as a core component of mindfulness as well as being crucial for a successful run!
The second and third workshops focus around digital detoxing and meditation, both hosted by The Wellness Movement. They’ll offer you the tools necessary to go about your everyday life fully equipped for some of the things that life throws at us.
