We’re getting closer to the big day!
We hope you’ve got your running shoes at the ready, because the adidas City Runs: 1 Hour is getting closer. If you’ve been tempted to sign up for a 5k, 10k or even a marathon in the past but have struggled to stick to the training plan, now’s your chance to tick it off of your list!
The adidas City Runs: 1 Hour might be the best excuse to pull out your trainers again. And if you needed any more persuasion, we’ve even got an exclusive SecretLDN £10 discount code (✨keep reading to find it✨) for you to use.
Don’t fear when we say the word “R U N” because this challenge is nothing like the typical race. The goal with this closed-road running event is to see how much distance you can cover in 60 minutes, so you end up with a finish distance, not a finish time.
As races go, it’s up there with the most unique. It’s a challenge where your stamina and game plan is just as important as your fitness level, making it all the more accessible for those of us who might have fallen off the bandwagon. You can also choose your start time – so if you’d rather finish your run and head off for brunch, pick the 9am slot. If you’d prefer to have a warm up first or a lie in (and we’re not judging you) pick the 10:15am, 11:30am or 12:45pm slots.
The closed (and mercifully flat) route follows some of the city’s most beautiful landmarks, so you can enjoy the view while hightailing it to your own personal finish line. Some of the key sights to look out for include Mansion House, the Royal Exchange and Guildhall. As you’re enjoying the views of London, specially-designed ‘timing mats’ will track the distance you’ve covered. Every 0.1 mile on the 1 mile route will be added up, and your official finish distance will be measured by the last mat you run through.
Included in the cost of entry is a free adidas tech t-shirt, free personalised race photos (to give to your mum and for a new profile picture, ofc), a medal and the chance to take part in bespoke training sessions led by adidas Runners London. You’ll also find some useful training plans on the adidas website. There’s an option for those aiming to hit 10k in under 50 minutes, or a mixed ability training plan to make sure everyone is prepped for race day. And if you needed any more incentive, there are also loads of London-wide exclusive discounts available when you’ve signed up.
Once the hour is up, you’ll be able to walk back to the Event Village (slowly) to collect your medal, take part in free yoga, have a free massage as well as some well-needed praise from your waiting family and friends. Then, give yourself a pat on the back and remain smug that you’ve ticked “run a race” off of your 2019 bucket list!
The adidas City Run – 1 Hour takes place on Sunday April 7. Tickets can be purchased via the Adidas City Runs website. (Psst – here’s £10 off entry price when you use the code “SECRETLDN” on the website)
