The average price of diesel in the UK has reached a record 199.18p per litre, according to the RAC, as the continuing conflict in the Middle East pushes up global fuel costs.
The figure is higher than the previous record of 199.09p per litre, set in June 2022. Petrol prices have also risen and now average 174.13p per litre.
Diesel has increased by 59p a litre since the conflict between the US and Iran began at the end of February, a rise of almost 40%.
Filling an average family car with diesel now costs about £110, around £31 more than it did at the start of the conflict.
RAC head of policy Simon Williams said the record price would affect not only drivers but also consumers buying goods and services transported by diesel-powered lorries and vans.
