Hot on the heels of both Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey stepping back from the upcoming West End revival of Sunday in the Park with George, the production company took to Instagram this morning (September 14) to announce that the production will ‘no longer proceed as scheduled‘.
The highly-anticipated revival was due to take place at the Barbican next year, and would reunite the two Wicked stars in a production directed by the Olivier and Tony award winning director, Marianne Elliott. Back in August, however, Ariana Grande announced that she would be withdrawing from the show (and stepping back from the public eye altogether) – and then just two weeks ago, Jonathan Bailey confirmed that he would also be dropping out of the production.
Today it was officially confirmed that the production will no longer be going ahead as planned in 2027. Empire Street Productions will keep hold of the rights, though – and London will hopefully see the welcome return of the much-loved Sondheim musical in 2028. In an Instagram statement, the production’s account shared that ‘further details will be announced in due course’.
