Do you get your daily fruit and veg? Even for the most ardent meal-preppers and health-aware among us, it can sometimes be a difficult endeavour. Well, Tesco is stepping in to help us make healthier snacking choices with a free fruit and veg pick ‘n’ mix pop-up next week.
On September 16, a super-sized blue and white pick ‘n’ mix bag will drop down on London’s Southbank, doling out 1,000s of portions of fruit and veg to passers-by. The fruity pick ‘n’ mix will be giving out everything “from crisp apples and juicy oranges to colourful peppers and creamy avocados.” And there will even be a special plushie up for grabs for the first 100 people to visit the pop-up.
It’s not just a charming chance to grab a healthy snack; the pop-up celebrates the third year of Tesco’s Free Fruit & Veg for Schools programme, which now reaches 1,000 schools across the country.
The programme “provides funding to schools with higher-than-average proportions of pupils eligible for free school meals, in partnership with the British Nutrition Foundation.” In just a few years, “the programme has provided almost 20 million free portions of fruit and vegetables to children across the UK, helping pupils discover everything from familiar favourites to less everyday produce such as blueberries, watermelon and asparagus.”
How to grab free fruit and veg
The fruit and veg pick ‘n’ mix is completely free and requires zero sign-up, registration, or ticketing. All you have to do is find the supersized blue- and white-striped pick ‘n’ mix bag and rock up to grab some free nutrition.
The fruit and veg pick ‘n’ mix pop-up will land in London on September 16, between 8:30am and 6pm. You can find it at Queen’s Walk, Southbank, next to the London Eye and Jubilee Gardens.
They’ll be doling out free fruit and veg on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be “almost 5,000 portions available”.
The first 100 visitors will also receive an exclusive Tesco fruit and veg plushie alongside their tasty snack.
