Hoje é o Dia Internacional da Mulher (8 de março) e, embora seja sempre importante defender as empresas lideradas por mulheres, hoje parece-nos particularmente adequado falar-lhe de alguns dos nossos favoritos em Londres.
Apresentando lugares que o vão deixar satisfeito, bêbado, satisfeito, exultante, ou, francamente, todas as anteriores, aqui estão algumas das mais brilhantes empresas lideradas por mulheres em Londres.
1. Luminary Bakery (Padaria Luminária)
Dedicada a apoiar mulheres que enfrentam desvantagens sociais e económicas, ao mesmo tempo que serve uma variedade de bolos – minis, aniversários, casamentos! – e pastelaria, um favorito de longa data do nosso pequeno site; é útil que estejam virtualmente à porta do nosso escritório em Londres, mas de certeza que apanharíamos qualquer comboio que nos levasse até lá se não estivessem.
A Luminary Bakery pode ser encontrada tanto em Camden como em Stoke Newington, e oferece cursos, experiência profissional e emprego remunerado. “A Luminary é mais do que uma padaria”, diz a fundadora Alice Williams numa declaração oficial no seu sítio Web. “É uma comunidade e um sinal de esperança para muitos”. 2. BookBar
Desça a rua Finsbury Park e siga em direção à Blackstock Road. No meio dos pubs do Arsenal, vai encontrar o BookBar, um pequeno local encantador que funde dois mundos bastante agradáveis. Se gosta de ler (e, na verdade, de falar sobre os livros que adora) e de um copo de vinho, este é o local ideal para si.
Para a fundadora Chrissy Ryan, “os livros são sociais”, e o BookBar é o destino perfeito para que isso se concretize. Num dia normal, encontrará amantes de livros a conversar sobre as suas últimas leituras, e também será presenteado com eventos regulares com autores e até com noites de música ao vivo.
Ah, e até há pacotes de livros “Shelf-Medicate ” que pode comprar, cada um com o seu próprio tipo de prescrição – “Sophisticated Reader”, “Commuter Buster” e muito mais – porque, para muitos de nós, aquela sessão de autocuidado com um livro pode funcionar como um tónico mágico. 3. Where The Pancakes Are (Onde estão as panquecas)
O Where The Pancakes Are está a funcionar há oito anos, depois de ter sido fundado por Patricia Trijbits em 2015 com um pop-up no Regents Canal em Hackney. Agora, têm três restaurantes (Battersea Power Station, London Bridge, Fitzrovia) em Londres, onde se pode empanturrar de panquecas, provando que o amor pelas panquecas vai muito além de um dia.

4. Fair Shot Café
O Fair Shot Café mudou-se de Mayfair para Covent Garden no início deste ano. Tudo neste sítio o deve fazer querer parar para tomar um café e comer uma sanduíche, mas nada mais do que a sua missão. A Fair Shot ajuda as pessoas com dificuldades de aprendizagem a formarem-se no sector da hotelaria, com o café a aceitar 12 trabalhadores estagiários de cada vez.
Ao lutar contra os preconceitos no emprego, leva a que aqueles a quem, de outra forma, não teria sido dada uma oportunidade, encontrem agora trabalho após a sua passagem pela Fair Shot. Bianca Tavella fundou a Fair Shot em 2019, e o seu local no The Yards em Covent Garden incorpora a sua missão de combater este preconceito numa base diária. 5. Livros Phlox
Quando acabar de tomar o seu café, tem de sair para encontrar o seu próximo livro de bolso. Onde? Bem, tal como o BookBar, a Phlox Books é outro tesouro de literatura onde pode ir e olhar para as lombadas de alguns romances clássicos ou para as capas da sua mais recente dose de inspiração contemporânea. A propósito, também servem java quente na loja, para que possa duplicar a cafeína e folhear os livros a uma velocidade vertiginosa.
Desde 2017,a Phlox Books tem servido aos londrinos da zona leste de Londres títulos acabados de imprimir e bebidas igualmente fumegantes. É propriedade da fundadora Aimée, e o nome da loja é inspirado no nome da loja que foi propriedade dos seus pais em Belfast durante a década de 1980. A loja original pode já não existir, mas a Phlox Books em Londres é um sonho para quem tem uma paixão por palavras, café e vinho; ou melhor ainda, um cocktail intelectual dos três. 6. Art On A Postcard
Fundada em 2014 por Gemma Peppé, a Art On A Postcard pretendia ser apenas um leilão secreto de postais, mas veja-os agora, quase 10 anos depois! Trabalhando com inúmeros artistas e realizando leilões, a AOAP trabalha com inúmeras instituições de caridade para retribuir através da arte. O seu quarto leilão do Dia Internacional da Mulher angariou fundos para a instituição de caridade para a qual começaram a trabalhar inicialmente, a Hepatitis C Trust, na sua tentativa de erradicar completamente o vírus. A Art On A Postcard também trabalhou com a War Child UK e com a campanha Choose Love’s Ukraine, tendo angariado três quartos de milhão de libras até à data com os seus leilões. 7. Lady Of The Grapes
Ao entrar no Lady Of The Grapes, vai reparar que a comida nos pequenos pratos salta à vista, tal como as rolhas do vinho. Por falar nisso, a missão deste bar de Covent Garden é garantir que “cada cliente tenha uma experiência epicurista deliciosa enquanto apoia as mulheres produtoras de vinho”. O Lady Of The Grapes foi criado por Caroline Bryon, que sempre defendeu os vinhos orgânicos, biodinâmicos e naturais produzidos por mulheres.
O seu chefe executivo, Elliot, também tem experiência de estrela Michelin, por isso, irá deliciar-se com pequenos pratos num bar que é obrigatório para quem gosta de um copo ou três à noite. Leia mais sobre o Lady Of The Grapes aqui.
8. Flowerhouse Pub
Pegue num velho pub inglês no coração de Marylebone, dê-lhe uma renovação floral e terá algo como o Flowerhouse: o pub que visa apoiar as mulheres na hospitalidade. Inaugurado por Jo Jackson em 2021, o Flowerhouse Pub trabalha com empreiteiros de construção, designers e jardineiros liderados por mulheres, e o pub tem como objetivo ajudar mulheres de todas as idades e origens a subir na hierarquia do trabalho hoteleiro. Como já se apercebeu, os interiores são bastante acolhedores – basta olhar para aquele bar. Seria o maior prazer para qualquer pessoa servir ou ser servido; uma fotografia com um cocktail em frente está certamente a chamar.

9. Eventos Lick
O Lick é o primeiro clube só para mulheres no Reino Unido e tem crescido significativamente desde que foi fundado em 2016 por Teddy Edwards. Depois de ter começado no Soho, o Lick agora organiza noites em todo o país e recebe 2.000 mulheres todas as noites, oferecendo um espaço seguro para todas as mulheres e membros da comunidade trans dançarem a noite toda. 10. Firebird
O restaurante de propriedade feminina do Soho coloca-o junto a uma fogueira e põe copos de vinho natural à sua frente. Se isso não parece ser o seu tipo de noite, então deve odiar o calor. Cada um tem a sua opinião, mas eu vou optar por uma noite acolhedora aqui. As garrafas podem mudar com frequência, mas o Firebird oferece sempre um prazer.
