It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, everywhere you go. Even on the rooftop of an Oxford Street department store. That’s right, folks: the sky-high bar and restaurant that’s perched on top of John Lewis’s flagship store like a shiny star on the top of a Christmas tree has just undergone its annual glow-up, and is ready to serve up Christmas cheer by the igloo-load. Literally.
1864 Rooftop Bar
Once you’ve navigated your way through the bustling department store, squeezed yourself past the abundance of frantic shoppers (it will be worth it, we promise), and located the correct lift, you can head up to the sixth floor. That, my friends, is where you’ll find 1864 Rooftop Bar & Kitchen; an enchanting oasis that feels a million miles away from the chaos that’s ensuing beneath you.

The festive hideaway features a collection of cosy (and outrageously cute) heated igloos; one of which is the largest in central London. The regular igloos are bookable for groups of up to eight, making them the picture-perfect spot for a pre-Christmas get-together with your pals. New for this year, however, is the gigantic private igloo which can fit up to 40 guests standing or 20 guests sitting. There’s also indoor and outdoor tables available and standing areas for casual drinks. So, if you fancy – quite literally – levelling up your seasonal socialising, you know where to head.
Those who have booked the igloos can opt for a specially-curated festive feasting menu that features that delicious likes of crispy fried chicken, lamb skewers, sticky toffee pudding and crème brûlée. Outside of the igloos, the a la carte menu is equally as scrumptious, and features chorizo croquetas, kale and samphire fritters and burnt Basque cheesecake. The masterful mixologists will be shaking up a storm behind the bar, serving up a whole host of cocktails and mocktails, each of which are a seasonal spin on a much-loved classic.
