From sensational sushi to mouth-watering ramen, London is home to so many incredible Japanese eateries and restaurants that you’re never too far away from some delicious food. One lesser-known street food dish from Japan is yakitori, and luckily for us, an all-new spot has opened in London that’s completely devoted to the drool-worthy chicken skewers.
Yakitori can be translated to “grilled chicken” from the Japanese words yaki (to grill) and tori (chicken). Called Yari Club, this new restaurant is guaranteed to transport the tastebuds to Tokyo without taking one step out of central London.
Yakitori in the heart of London
Yakitori shops are usually small spaces that specialise in the dish and the dish only, with Yari Club following this standard in full force, boasting a compact shop on Covent Garden’s beloved St Martin’s Lane.
The space features black bricks, stainless steel bars, and cherry wood-clad walls, immersing you in the alluring ambience of classic yakitori joints seen across Japan. There is a take-out service as well as limited seating for a quick lunch or pick-me-up.
Speaking of lunch, you can expect a traditional selection of eight chicken yakitori dishes on the menu, including Tsukune (meatball version with sweet glaze), Toriniku (thigh and breast), and more.
Yari Club’s awe-inspiring yakitori machine
But it’s how those skewers are being prepared and cooked that we’re fascinated by. Yari Club serving up their dishes with the help of the UK’s first-ever robotic yakitori machine. Guests can watch as the 1.5m long machine grasps your order, grills it to order, and dips it in the restaurant’s renowned Yari Club sauce.
Beyond the chicken and yakitori, there is also a Prawn Теmpura skewer available, as well as sides to bulk up your brilliant meal. There’s Chicken Karaage, Vegetable Gyoza, Corn Tempura, and so much more, so you better start getting ready for a truly fabulous feast! You can also add rice to make it a filling and nourishing rice bowl meal.
