Winterland returns, and they’re hitting the Alps (of Fulham)

Fulham’s riverside pop-up, Winterland, has never been one to sleep on the pop-ups front. After bringing the beach to London this summer, they’ve just unveiled their grand plans for Christmas 2018. On November 8th, they’re returning as a festive alpine paradise, complete with all the seasonal trimmings.

Sweeping aside minor problems such as Fulham’s complete and utter lack of mountains, Winterland have embraced a retro ski chalet theme, harking back to the ski resorts of the 80s and 90s. They’re setting up gondolas and chairlifts – for posing, rather than mountain transport – and the space will be filled with mountain scenes. In the absence of any actual skiing, they’ll provide neon-lit curling lanes, beer pong, prosecco pong, and putting pong table tennis (nope, we’ve got no idea either). Meanwhile, karaoke should keep you entertained without the prospect of your dulcet tones bringing down an avalanche upon you.Winterland

You’ve got no end of hideaways to curl up inside, too. Winterland will feature heated hunting lodges this year, along with sturdy feasting tables. Making a welcome return are Winterland’s cadre of bauble filled igloos, which – as you may have noticed – are winter’s must-have accessory.

The food has been ripped straight from the Alps, with schnitzel, raclette burgers, and croque monsieurs courtesy of Jimmy’s Lodge. Additionally, The Pizza Shed will be on hand to slice up wood-fired sourdough pizzas – exactly the kind of fuel you’ll need to conquer the mountain, or perhaps just the District Line home. Ski you there!

Opening hours: opens November 8th, and the hours will be 6-11pm (Thu & Fri, and Wed in December), 12-11pm (Sat), and 12-8pm (Sun).

Alex Landon

Although Alex spent most of his life in Somerset and Durham, London is (almost) in his name, so he relocated to the capital and fell in love with it. Now going by the moniker 'Secret Landon', you'll find him eating all of London's street food, lost in a bookshop, or shouting at his beloved ice hockey team, the Minnesota Wild.
