London’s Southbank Centre is once again casting a gorgeous glow over the capital with its much-loved Winter Light event, a celebration of art and light running until February 2, 2025. Perfect for those darker winter evenings, the riverside has been transformed into a luminous gallery that’s free to explore, featuring stunning works by acclaimed contemporary artists.
This annual showcase shines a spotlight on some of the best installation artists in the world, turning the South Bank into a glowing wonderland in the process.
Winter Light at the Southbank Centre
This year’s lineup includes Nathaniel Rackowe’s ‘Desire Lines’, a new piece that illuminates the Thames tree canopy, as well as must-see projections by s by Aoife Dunne and Mat Collishaw, that will be beamed on the iconic Royal Festival Hall.
You can even expect beloved artists and installations to return, including Marinella Sentore¡s ‘We Rise by Lifting Others’ (pictured above), a powerful tribute to unity and positivity during harder times, and the striking ‘Sixty Minute Spectrum’ by David Batchelor, which bathes the Hayward Gallery rood in a kaleidoscope of colours. This shining stroll by the Thames is just one of the many things to do in and around the Southbank Centre this winter. The installations span the riverside hotspot, blending seamlessly with the Winter Market and Alpine pop-up, which only add more festive cheer to the experience.
