That’s Wimbledon the tennis tournament, not Wimbledon the place, FYI.
You’ll have to eat your strawberries and cream without a side serving of Federer and Djokovic, I’m afraid, as Wimbledon 2020 has been cancelled. Ongoing concerns about staging a large-scale sporting event in a time of crisis have forced the All England Lawn Tennis Club’s hand, and they’ll now turn their attention to hosting the 2021 tournament instead.
As with Glastonbury, the Tokyo Olympics, and pretty much every other large summer event you can imagine, the coronavirus pandemic left organisers with no choice but to postpone. The decision is an unsurprising one, but the 2020 tournament’s fate was only sealed at an emergency meeting today. It gives Novak Djokovic, Simona Halep, and co another year as reigning champions, which is nice for them, but sadly means we won’t see the green lawns of Wimbledon in use until June 2021.
