Yes, you read that correctly. ‘Spoons is selling pints for 99p until Tier 3 commences tomorrow.
I never thought I’d see the day where a pint of beer cost less than a loaf of bread, but anything is possible these days. All Wetherspoons pubs in London are now offering pints of ale for under £1 until boozers close at 11pm tonight (December 15). London will be entering Tier 3 restrictions tomorrow meaning that all pubs, bars and restaurants must close, except for takeaways and deliveries. The idea behind these oh-so-cheap pints is to reduce as much waste as possible by practically giving them away while their doors are still open.
A whopping 70 million pints were wasted during the first lockdown in March, and in order to prevent losing more than is absolutely necessary this time around, Wetherspoons is taking drastic measures. Some beers can stay fresh in a keg for months, however real ale expires within a matter of weeks – hence the attempt to sell as much as possible over the next few days. This may be the first and last time I order a round without fearing for my bank balance, it’s all very exciting.
Eddie Gershon, a spokesman for Wetherspoons, said “We would have to throw any unsold real ale away in those pubs moving to Tier 3, so it makes sense that our customers can enjoy it at even greater value prices than normal in those pubs that will be affected.” I couldn’t agree with you more Eddie.
Head to a ‘Spoons near you before close tonight for the cheapest pint of all time!
