Transport for London has confirmed that the Weaver Line will be part-suspended for the entirety of today (July 13). There will be no service at all between Hackney Downs and Chingford and the rest of the line is currently experiencing severe delays, too.
The service suspension comes following a fire that started near Wood Street and Vallentin Road in Walthamstow yesterday evening. Urgent repairs are currently taking place along the line as the fire caused damage to parts of the track as well as some homes, gardens, and sheds in the area.
Approximately 125 firefighters and 25 fire engines were sent to deal with fire which started at approximately 6.30pm yesterday (July 12). The fire was said to be under control by 10.35pm and no injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is currently unknown and still ‘under investigation’ but there have been reports of it being an electrical fire caused by a fallen tree.
Transport for London said: “All day today there will be no service between Hackney Downs and Chingford while we conduct urgent repairs to the track following a line side fire near Wood Street. Please use London Underground and London Buses to complete your journey.”
London Fire Brigade Commissioner, Tom Goodall, said: “We deployed a significant amount of resources to this fire and firefighters worked in hot and arduous conditions to bring it under control as swiftly as possible.”
