Bank holidays. Widely renowned as “good” across the board. In fact, this one coming up is our first since New Year’s Day, and likely the first this year where you aren’t starting it hungover.
But, despite us kicking things off all fresh-faced, not feeling the effects of a rowdy NYE, there will be a spanner in the works you’ll need to watch out for when heading out to a gallery, a bottomless brunch or a club night over the Easter bank holiday weekend.
From Good Friday (April 15), London will be hit by some major tube disruptions, and everyone is advised to check before travelling over the entire Easter weekend (April 15 – 18).
Which Tube lines are affected over the Easter bank holiday?
The Hammersmith and City Line will be closed for the entire bank holiday, with the time being used to carry out track maintenance.
This will also be the case between Acton Town and Heathrow Airport, and between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge on the Piccadilly Line for all four days. So, anyone travelling to Heathrow Airport for a bank holiday weekend may need to find alternative routes. TfL rail and Heathrow Express trains can be taken to the airport, though these are less frequent than the Piccadilly Line trains. Check your best route on Citymapper.
Parts of the Northern Line are also set to close. Trains will not run between Charing Cross, Battersea Power Station and Stockwell on April 15 – 16, adding to the parts of the Bank Branch which remain closed.
The District Line is also due to close on Easter Sunday (April 17) to carry out maintenance work.
Andy Lord, TfL’s chief operating officer, said: “I’d encourage customers to check before they travel as there are some closures, but the majority of the public transport network will be open over the Easter weekend, meaning people can enjoy everything the capital has to offer.
“We’re seeing more and more people using our network again, which is a great sign, and we’re pleased to welcome them back.”
