If you’re anything like me, you’ve been in a betwixmas bubble since Christmas and hardly know what day it is. However, if you’re perception of what day it is will make a sudden return when it comes to celebrating the new year, we’ve got you covered. No matter how you’re ringing in 2026, whether it’s watching the iconic London fireworks on the Thames or heading to a mate’s house for the last bit of merriment of 2025, here’s all you need to know about getting around the capital.
Wednesday 31 December 2025
Firstly, as has been the case since 27 December, Liverpool Street Station will remain closed.
Important reminder: There will be no free travel on TfL services on New Year’s Eve, as some Londoners might be used to from previous years.
Walking
If you’re planning on exploring the sights of London by foot on New Year’s Eve, please be aware that there will be road closures due to the fireworks display. The following roads and bridges will be closed:
- Westminster Bridge is closed from 2pm.
- Waterloo Bridge is also closed from 2pm.
- Golden Jubilee Footbridges are closed from 2pm.
- Blackfriars Bridge is closed from 7pm.
- Lambeth Bridge is closed from 6pm.
- Millennium Footbridge is closed from 7pm.
- Southwark Bridge is closed from 10pm.
- Vauxhall Bridge is closed for a short period around midnight.
Buses
- Saturday Day services will run, with night routes also running for the whole 24 hours.
- There will be a special service on the SL6 route.
- Some routes will run more often.
- Some central buses will be on diversion due to road and bridge closures (above).
Tube
- There is a reduced Saturday service, but trains will run all night.
- Some stations will close in the evening and will repoen when it is safe to do so. You can see the full list of station closures here.
- On the District line there will be no services to Kensington Olympia.
- On the Piccadilly line there will be no service between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge.
- On the Waterloo and City line, trains every 10 minutes after 11:30pm, service ends at 2:40am for the night.
- On the Elizabeth line, there will be a reduced Saturday service and it will run all night. No service between Liverpool Street and Stratford.
London Overground
- The Lioness line is running a Saturday service with no overnight trains.
- The Suffragette line is running a Saturday service with no overnight trains.
- The Liberty line is running a Wednesday service with no overnight trains.
- The Mildmay line has no service between Camden Road and Richmond & Shepherd’s Bush. There is a special service operating between Clapham Junction and Shepherd’s Bush & Willesden Junction and Stratford (via Queen’s Park), including trains throughout the night.
- The Weaver line has no service between Liverpool Street and London Fields. Special service between London Fields and Cheshunt & Enfield Town & Chingford, including trains throughout the night.
- The Windrush line has no service between Surrey Quays and Clapham Junction. Trains throughout the night between Highbury & Islington and Crystal Palace & Highbury & Islington and West Croydon.
DLR
- DLR will be running a Saturday day service with trains running all night, reducing to every 15 minutes after 12:30am.
Trams
- Saturday service will run all night.
- Trams between Wimbledon and New Addington will run every 30 minutes.
- Trams between Wimbledon and Beckenham Junction will run every 30 minutes.
- There is no overnight service to/from Elmers End.
Thursday 1 January 2026
Liverpool Street Station will remain closed.
There will be road closures due to the New Year’s Day parade.
Buses
- Buses will run a Sunday service.
Tube
- There will be a reduced Sunday service running.
- On the District line there will be no services to Kensington Olympia.
- On the Piccadilly line there will be no service between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge.
- There will be no service on the Waterloo and City line.
- The Elizabeth line will run a Saturday service.
London Overground
- The Lioness line is running a Saturday service.
- The Suffragette line is running a special service

Information for drivers
The Congestion Charge will not operate on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, so there is no need to pay.
