See England head to glory in the new Trafalgar Square fan zone.
Sports fans whisper the names of London’s hallowed football grounds with reverence: Wembley, Stamford Bridge, White Hart Lane, The Emirates. This summer, another name has been added to the city’s footballing heritage, albeit briefly: Trafalgar Square. That’s where a free fan zone has been set up, with huge screens allowing us to cheer on Kane, Sterling, and co from the heart of town. This Sunday, it’s time for the grand finale, as England take on Italy to become champions of Europe, and the ballot for free tickets in the fan zone is open now!
The Trafalgar Square fan zone has screened all of England’s matches, including those against Croatia and Scotland, when only key workers were allowed into the fan zone as a thank you for their services during the pandemic. Numbers have been kept limited during the tournament, and with social distancing rules not relaxed until July 19, that’ll be the case for the final – making the competition for tickets fierce.
The ballot for tickets is open from now until 10am tomorrow (Friday, July 9), and you’ll only be allowed to apply for two tickets, so choose your watch buddy wisely. Social distancing measures mean that all visitors will be seated during the screening, in tables of four. There will be a bar inside the venue serving alcohol, but you won’t be allowed to bring any in yourself.
It’s a (potentially) once-in-a-lifetime chance to cheer England in a major tournament final, and if you haven’t been able to score tickets to Wembley to see the game live, the Trafalgar Square fan zone is one of the best places in town to watch it. You can apply for your free tickets here – good luck! In the meantime, get practicing Three Lions…
