Looking through a set of nostalgia shades will remind you that a trip to Toys ‘R’ Us was basically the equivalent of stepping out onto the ‘Rainbow Road’ track on Mario Kart. A thrill… a joy… an exhilarating destination that pinpointed the peak (leaving with a Tamagotchi) of your entire existence up until that point .
Sadly, the possibility for anyone to feel that exact way left in 2018 when the company was forced to close doors to all of its UK stores. But, it came back (kind of) last year, when news broke that nine locations would open. After its initial comeback, there will now be a further 30 locations of Toys ‘R’ Us added in the UK this year.
While we were used to the roadside palaces (warehouses) in the Toys ‘R’ Us heyday, they’ve taken a different, more subtle approach this time around. You’ll find each location nestled inside a branch of WH Smith and will give shoppers the chance to try out toys from brands including LEGO, Barbie, and Peppa Pig before either purchasing in store or via the Toys ‘R’ Us online store.
According to Retail Gazette, the new Toys ‘R’ Us stores will open by the end of the financial year in August. Thus far, there has been no London return for Toys ‘R’ Us (RIP today and always to the Brent Cross location), we can hope that with a further 30 set to come to Britain, space for one can be found in the capital city.
