Top Boy has been capturing our attention for over a decade, with the cult show giving us an unflinching drama set in the housing estates of east London.
Each chapter has a momentous feel to it and, as bittersweet as it may be that the final season is on the horizon, that’s certain to be no different this time around.
September 2023 will mark the release of the third and final season in the show’s current guise – though it’s technically season five if we’re counting Top Boy: Summerhouse, which first aired in 2011.
Today (April 28), Netflix confirmed that the final season would hit our screens later this year, and dropped the first trailer, which can be viewed below.
What can we expect from the final season of Top Boy?
Details are thin at the moment, and the trailer is quite clearly at the ‘teaser stage’, but we do know a few things about the final season of Top Boy.
For one, we can look forward to the return of the show’s most recognisable faces. Kane Robinson (aka Kano), Ashley Walters (aka Asher D), Simbi Ajikawo (aka Little Simz), and Jasmine Jobson will all be returning in their roles of Sully, Dushane, Shelley and Jaq, respectively.
Fans can also expect the return of Saffron Hocking and Araloyin Oshunremi, as well as new roles for Barry Keoghan – fresh from picking up Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars for The Banshees of Inisherin – and Brian Gleeson, of Peaky Blinders fame.
Speaking earlier in the year, Ashley Walters and Kane Robinson said: “Every story must have an ending and so season three will be our finale. A chance to come full circle and end the journey the right way.”
Top Boy can be viewed on Netflix now, and the final season drops in September 2023.
