Calling all history buffs. You’ve heard the story of the Titanic many times: documentaries, books, exhibitions, and even famous (fictional) films, but I’ll bet you’ve never experienced it quite like this new London experience is offering… Titanic: Echoes From The Past, which opens in Camden on February 6, combines historical facts with immersive storytelling and virtual reality (VR), putting you right at the heart of this historic event.
So, how does a Titanic VR experience work?
You may have initial hesitancies about the sounds of a ‘Titanic VR’, but the team behind the experience have taken good care to focus on the ship itself, key moments in the fateful voyage, and pay homage to the passengers on board. Titanic: Echoes From The Past will take visitors through the experience via multiple sequences, including hitting the iceberg and getting a closer look at the wreck. You’ll almost step into the shoes of the passengers. The final sequence promises to be touching, as it focuses on the ship’s departure from Southampton, reminding visitors of the people at the heart of the story: the passengers and crew.
Throughout Titanic: Echoes From The Past, you’ll be guided by the character of pioneering filmmaker William Harbeck, and follow his footsteps as he searches for mysteriously lost film reels from the ill-fated voyage. In real life, Harbeck was one of the passengers who passed away on the ship. The experience blends historical facts with fictional reconstructions to be both educational and entertaining to visitors.
Amongst other things, this immersive expedition will give you a closer look at Titanic’s grandeur. From the ship’s towering masts to the intricate details of its interior, the state-of-the-art virtual reality will bring every aspect to life around you. The 30-minute experience promises to share fascinating facts and stories behind the ship, while also emphasising the historical significance of this moment in time.
