If you think you’re excited about the prospect of Tinie Tempah’s new fried chicken service, we can pretty much guarantee you aren’t as pumped as our very own Tamsin Salfrais. Upon finding out, she coined the phrase “I might Pass Out with excitement at this new fried chicken spot”, which I’ve shamelessly stolen for the headline of this piece.
Should the chicken at Tinie Tempah’s new service live up to this otherworldly level of pun, then it might just be one of the top spots in London.
RAPS has just launched, and is the newest venture from rapper Tinie Tempah.
The all-new brand, operating through a takeaway service and a pop-up store, aims to deliver “a nostalgic nod to Tinie’s early childhood spent frequenting the chicken shops of South East London after school and to family dinners, RAPS is both a trip down memory lane and a celebration of Tinie’s desire to reinvent a classic wRAP”.
The menu was created alongside YouTube and Instagram star Big Has, who has previously cooked at restaurants such as Palatino and Sardine. You’ll find some mouthwatering options, from the Unruly wRap, with jerk fried chicken, plantain, homemade jerk BBQ sauce and lime mayo slaw; to the Peng Wings in buffallo sauce; to the African Giant wRap (a nod to Burna Boy’s album), with buttermilk fried chicken, homemade jollof salsa, fried plantain, lettuce, tomato and mayo.
Eagle-eyed fans of UK rap will no doubt spot some more dishes that nod to Tinie Tempah’s peers, be it the Unknown T Buttermilk Brined Tenders or the JMEEEE wRap, with THIS* isn’t chicken goujons, vegan smoked cheese, vegan lime mayo, tomato and lettuce.
Tinie Tempah’s RAPS will take over the food side of things on the rooftop of the flagship John Lewis at Oxford Street, aka Willows on the Roof. Lasting four months from March 11, RAPS will be available for purchase here, with Hackney favourites Night Tales sorting out the tunes for the occasions.
Those from (confirmed so far) Shoreditch, Hackney, Dalston, Brixton, Camberwell, Queen’s Park and Willesden will also be able order food from RAPS on Deliveroo. Kitchen Ventures, who are also working with Tinie Tempah at Willows on the Roof, will be helping to cook up and deliver the food to peckish Londoners.
