“The Australians are coming, the Australians are coming!” And no, we’re not talking about the emigration of Aussie’s Clapham-dwellers to other areas of London. Instead, we’re talking about the arrival of a beloved confectionary in this fair country. Australia’s favourite biscuit, Tim Tams, can now be purchased all across the UK.
Talk to any Australian for more than, oh, six seconds or so, and we’ll find a way to moan about all the delicious Australian treats that we can’t get over here. Sometimes it’s the typically Australian baked goods that we miss: lamingtons, neenish tarts, and Anzac cookies, among many others. But these can fairly easily be found in London’s many Australian-influenced cafes and brunch spots.
But sometimes it’s the pre-packaged stuff that we miss the most. There’s a certain nostalgia that sets in when we think about our dearest and most-missed mass-manufactured sweets, crisps, and more. And few inspire the kind of fervour that Tim Tams do – and now Brits can get a taste of the Arnotts product, and join the hype train. I mean just look at Margot Robbie’s response to receiving a packet on the red carpet:
No longer will Australians return from visits back home with a suitcase full of smuggled Tim Tams. Now we can get them right down the street!
Where to buy Tim Tams
Currently, you can purchase Tim Tams from Waitrose locations around the UK. They will soon also be available for purchase through Ocado. And there’s no paying through the nose for these delectable delights, either. They’re currently available in three flavours – original, dark chocolate, and caramel – for just £2.50 a packet!
As Secret London’s resident Aussie – with particularly strong opinions on the Penguin vs Tim Tam debate (don’t even try to compare them) – I wholeheartedly welcome the biscuit’s arrival. It’s time for everyone to understand the superiority of this particularly choccy biccy. Oh, and afternoon tea is about to be changed completely with the arrival of the proper Tim Tam Slam.
Never done the Tim Tam Slam? It’s easy! Next time you’ve got a cup of tea or coffee, just nibble off two opposite corners of a Tim Tam and then slurp your drink through it. And then be sure to shove the now melty-ooey-gooey chocolate delight in your mouth before it falls to pieces. YUM!
If you’ll excuse me, I’m off to my nearest Waitrose to absolutely clear the shelves of the stuff.
