Football’s coming home.
As the lyrics creep up from 30 years to 55 years of hurt, one thing remains the same. Baddiel, Skinner and The Lightning Seeds will never stop believing that it’s coming home.
So, as England prepare for their first major final in a tournament since that day in 1966, the creators of England’s most iconic football song and chant have a treat in store. The pair of comedians Frank Skinner and David Baddiel, alongside Ian Broudie of The Lightning Seeds, will perform “Three Lions” on television tonight (July 9).
As first reported by iNews, the trio will perform the song on The Last Leg’s Euros special, which airs on Channel Four tonight at 10pm. Broudie had previously said the group would perform before the game, but a show at Wembley pre-match was looking unlikely.
But now, the group will join Adam Hills, Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker for a live studio rendition of the hit in the extended special of the show.
Broudie said to the i: “It hasn’t quite come home yet. But there hasn’t been a moment like this in the song’s lifespan because we’re actually in a final.”
Due to England’s heroic success thus far in Euro 2020, the track is now on course to score its 5th number one since its release in 1996. Let’s hope that correlates with the result this time, eh?
England face Italy at 8pm this Sunday (July 11), and it may finally come home.
