Listen up, Londoners. I come bearing an idyllic escape that’ll make any stress of city life drift dreamily away from you. The Raft at Chigborough is a secluded and oh-so so serene floating cabin, located in the midst of a rather hefty 130-acre farm and fishery near the historic market town of Maldon.
The Raft at Chigborough
The Raft at Chigborough is – quite possibly – the most unique spot to have a snooze near London. Accessible only by a rowboat, this pocket-sized private island floats tranquilly on a fishing lake, offering visitors a seamless blend of relaxation and adventure. And the two-storey, solar-powered cabin perched upon it is decked out with everything you’ll need for a comfy and cosy night’s stay.

There’s a living area (complete with a huge window that looks out on the jaw-droppingly gorgeous surrounding scenery), a spacious deck (upon which you can bask in the sunshine, admire the views, or even partake in a spot of fishing), a shower, an outdoor kitchenette, and a mezzanine level where you’ll find a double bed to rest your head.
Visitors have access to a wood-fired hot tub, their own personal rowboat, and – of course – everything that Chigborough Farm has to offer. There are bikes available to rent, water sports to get involved in, yoga sessions to partake in, and plenty of food and drink to tuck into. And if you fancy venturing out to the nearby town of Maldon, you’ll be treated to history, charm, and a whole load of Maldon sea salt.

If a floating cabin doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, though, fear not. The Raft isn’t the only accommodation option at Chigborough Farm. There’s cottages, glamping pods, and plenty of space for tents and motorhomes to set up shop.
