A free festival? Music to our ears!
We’ve all spent evenings singing along to our favourite artists at Alexandra Palace but this month, it’s opening its gates for a one-day free festival. The People’s Palace will be turning into The Great Fête on Saturday 17 August to offer a summer celebration made up of live music, food and entertainment. Come along to experience everything the Fete has to offer in the beautiful setting of Alexandra Palace and Park.
There’s plenty going on at The Great Fête including fairground rides, street food, cinema in the theatre, craft beer, live music and, of course, the beautiful greenery surrounding the palace. Street food picks include Caribbean BBQ, Greek Expectations, Arancini Brothers and Browski Burgers. You’ll also be able to pacify your sweet tooth at the Ice Cream Cab, Candidonut and The Waffle Float. Feeling thirsty? Head on over to the Pimm’s Bar, Pin Up Brewery or grab a pint from the Craft Beer stand.
Headlining The Great Fête will be DJ Yoda, a multi-award-winning hip-hop DJ and producer, headlining festivals and clubs around the world. He’ll be playing at Stage on the Slope, alongside King Cassidy, Necktr and more. DJ Crash and Burn will be in charge of the Palace Stage, and over at the People’s Stage, you’ll find a specially selected programme of local talent running non-stop performances all day long with inspiring singers, performers, spoken word artists and musicians. If that wasn’t enough music to your ears, you’ll also be able to watch a bumper programme of lively and creative arts activities and performances at Performances in the Park, and the London Metropolitan Brass Band will also be playing across the event.
As the majority of The Great Fête is free, there’s no excuse not to treat yourself to some of The Great Fête’s paid-for activities. Sing your heart out at the silent disco or watch a screening of cult classic Blade Runner in Alexandra Palace’s beautiful theatre. Find out more about the activities here.
It’s worth mentioning that while Ally Pally is famed for its incredible live music events, it’s still a charity at heart. By coming along to The Great Fête, you’re not only sorted for a fun day out with family or friends, but you’re also contributing towards maintaining and restoring the building and park, and providing creative learning opportunities for local people.
The Great Fête takes place on August 17, 2019 from 12:00pm – 22:00pm. Find out more here. Nearest stations: Wood Green, Alexandra Palace Rail.
