If, like me, you watched both seasons of Netflix’s Squid Game and thought “you know what, I’d give that a good go”, then you’re in luck. This spring, Netflix and The Luna Cinema – one of the UK’s leading open-air and pop-up cinema brands – will bring the immersive Squid Game: The Experience to London.
Tickets have just gone on sale (April 25) to this straight-out-of-the-TV event, which will be located near the Royal Victoria Dock at ImmerseLDN.Squid Game: The Experience will have you battle it out in some of the series’ most recognisable games, plus a couple we’ll recall from our own childhoods. Don’t worry, though, you won’t meet a gruesome demise if you lose; your progress and scores from each game will be totted up via a wristband instead. It’s the ideal day out for friends, colleagues, and even families, thanks to special family-friendly sessions at weekends.
What games can you expect to play at the immersive Squid Game experience in London?
Squid Game: The Experience starts as you enter through a night market, then through face scanners – much like the show – where you’ll be split into teams by staff (unless you’re coming with a massive group, you’ll be kept with those you’ve arrived with). You’ll then enter the waiting room, which is similar to the bunk room on the show, and you’ll see the faces of all the players on a big screen. From here on in, players will be under the watchful eyes of the infamous guards in red suits. However, unlike the mostly silent nature of these guards in the show, these guards will fill you in on the general rules and guide you through what you can expect over the next hour.
The games you’ll participate in include the famed Red Light/Green Light; the rope game from the first series (without the danger of plummeting to your death, obvs); a memory steps game, where you have to recreate the correct route across the room; Petanque; and the addition of a musical chairs-esque game and a quiz. There are prizes to be won, gameplay is timed, and as the guards are watching the whole time, so it’s safe to say the tension will be high.
Throughout the experience, you’ll accumulate points based on your performance in each game; you’ll also receive rankings (red for lower scorers, orange for those in an intermediate position, and green for those who seem to be smashing it out the park). The high-tech wristband you wear throughout will track all this data, and each game room will have a screen where this information is displayed for all to see…
The experience concludes with a shop, where you’re sure to want to grab a memento or two to remind you of the time you survived Squid Game for years to come. You’ll also return to the night market area, where there’ll be food and drinks available too. So… do you want to play a game?
