Good news for those of us who have had White Christmas on repeat over the festive period, as our dreams might be coming true, just a little later than planned. Temperatures are set to dip later this week, and a dusting of snow is set to bless us with its presence in the capital. Those new fluffy socks and thermals you got for Christmas will come in handy as the whole of the UK is set to be impacted by a cold snap.
This year’s winter has been fairly mild compared to previous winters, so for those who love the magical feeling of the first snowflakes dropping can finally start to get excited. Although inevitably it’ll be bad news for those who are already craving the Summer, but the good news is we have already hit the shortest day of the year, so Summer is in sight (five months isn’t too long to wait, right?).
When can we expect snow?
While on New Year’s Eve, we can expect the sun to be out and temperatures to stay at a relatively comfortable 6 degrees. As we get further into the new year, the weather is set to take a turn. The latest forecast predicts that we’ll see light snow in London from as early as Saturday 3 January, with temperatures dipping below 0 degrees in the early hours of the morning.
We’ll have a bit of a break from the freezing weather for a couple of days, but the low temperature and the snow are set to make a return from 6 January until 8 January.
How much snow will there be?
The Met Office’s latest predictions say that the UK will be hit with some serious snowfall in the first few days of the new year, with some parts of the country like Scotland expecting to see up to 30cm of snow. The more northern parts of the UK are likely to be more impacted by the cold weather, with an amber health warning having been issued.
London is likely to see lighter snow than the rest of the country, but with snow also comes ice, so Londoners should still stay cautious as the colder weather hits.
