Given that Homer Simpson is somewhat partial to a pint of Duff, and likes to utter the phrase “To Alcohol: the cause of, and solution to, all of life’s problems”, it’s a wonder that we didn’t get a mural of the iconic cartoon outside a pub sooner.
But, thanks to the talents of artist Steven Gonzalez, we now have exactly that; outside a popular Camden pub, the Old Eagle pub.
And, get this: its even interactive. We all recognise the famous Simpson family living room, right? Well, we’re here to tell you now that you could have a seat on that sofa.
Passers by can carry out their very best Homer Simpson lounging impression (lord – Flanders? – knows we’ve all done a pretty stellar one of those on plenty a Sunday morning). Or, if you’re feeling slightly more intellectual, there’s always the option of whipping out the air saxophone Lisa Simpson-style. Sadly, there’s no Itchy and Scratchy cartoons to face you, which is likely music to Marge’s ears. This is all made possible by a handy prop – an electricity box – which is painted as part of the mural to portray a (slightly less comfortable) sofa seat at 742 Evergreen Terrace.
As you can see by scrolling through Gonzalez’s Instagram post, the fresh design replaces the previous eagle artwork, which had been splashed with graffiti.
The mural has been up at the Old Eagle (251 Royal College Street, NW1 9LU) since January, so head down there to get a snap on the sofa. Just watch out for Bart’s slingshots.
