When it comes to fast-casual eateries, it can often feel like there are only a handful of truly affordable options. In fact, some might argue that London’s fast food scene could use some new blood! Well, a newcomer to London is here to change up your expectations of a casual meal out. Introducing: Shrimp Shack, a new eatery in Streatham with a menu dedicated to all things shrimp and shellfish.
Courtesy of a team that includes Creams co-founder, director Balal Aqil, Shrimp Shack wants to spice up your meals with their seafood delights. Said Aqil:
“We wanted to launch something totally unique that is different from the hundreds of burger chains around, which is where the idea of grilled shrimp came from. This new casual dining experience is going to be as much fun as it is tasty, showcasing innovative experiences to its guests that they’ll want to come back time and time again.”
What’s on the menu?
Well… shrimp! The brunt of the menu is the ‘build-your-own’ experience, with guests able to opt for the original or saucy route. The Original Shrimp Shack sees your ‘choice of catch’ seasoned and cooked and served with a choice of lemon butter, garlic butter, or piri piri dip. Be sure to let them know how spicy you want it too!
Meanwhile, the Saucy Shrimp Shack sees your selection cooked up and coated in your choice of sauce. There are seven to choose from, including the lightly spiced Ocean Sauce, the sweet, tangy, and spicy Shrimp Shack House Sauce, the creamy Thermidore, and more. Be sure to grab an apron so it doesn’t splatter all over your clothes – it’s about to get messy! Both the Original and Saucy options also come with two sides of your choice.
Not a fan of shrimp? Well then you can just choose from crab, lobster, calamari, mussels, salmon, and plenty more seafood options, with a variety of offerings for the saucy and original orders.
Can’t decide? You don’t have to! There are also enormous sharing options for you and your friends (or just yourself if you’re particularly hungry). They’ve got seafood boils, with a feast of seafood served alongside sausages, corn on the cob, pasta, and more. Or you could opt for the Family Style Feast platters, with enough food to kip on for the whole clan.
More than just seafood
And if you’ve somehow ended up in a restaurant called Shrimp Shack, but don’t fancy any underwater delicacies, fret not! The menu includes plenty of non-seafood options and a whole host of starters and side dishes. You could chow down on Loaded Fries piled high with fried chicken (or shrimp!), toppings, and spicy mayo, or smash some crispy Firecracker Chicken, cheese-filled Mushroom Boats, or even Garlic Cheese Bread.
With veggie and vegan options also available, Shrimp Shack may focus on the crustaceans, but they’ve got something for everyone. There’ll be no crabby faces around the table when you visit – regardless of everyone’s likes and dislikes.
The future of Shrimp Shack
While they may have only just opened up this year in London, the restaurant group has big plans for the future. They’re “on a mission to bring [their] sensational seafood to food lovers everywhere”.
London is set to remain the group’s flagship location, but Shrimp Shack is also eyeing up sites in, Camden, Mile End, Ilford, Cambridge, Birmingham, and beyond. The ocean’s most abundant ingredients may soon lead to the country’s most abundant restaurant group!
