If you like your day-trip destinations to look like they’ve been plucked from the pages of a storybook, you happen to have come to the right place. Because the UK’s most ‘fairytale-like’ locations have just been revealed – and a scenic spot near London managed to earn itself a comfy place in the top ten.
The research in question comes courtesy of Betway Casino (because why not, hey?) who analysed 40 towns and villages across the country based on a number of key fairytale indicators. The number of historic buildings, proximity to a castle, nearby forest walks, distance to airports, and remoteness were all taken into account in the pursuit of finding the most magical spots. And whilst Cumbria, Scotland, and Wales dominated the enchanting charts, one teeny-tiny town near London did manage to make the cut.

Rye, East Sussex
Picture-perfectly perched just an hour from London, Rye is a historic hilltop hotspot that’s well and truly fit for the pages of a fairytale. Rye found itself at number 9 on the list of the most fairytale-like destination in the UK – boasting a whopping 299 listed buildings and its very own castle.
