Anyone Londoner with a fondness for lovely sounds is likely to have paid a trip to Denmark Street, the most famous musical street in the entire city (and beyond). A stroll down the thoroughfare over the years has meant passing by guitar shops, venues, and studios, but it has apparently – and quite amazingly – never been home to a record store.
Rough Trade will now be able to lay claim to being the very first record store on Denmark Street, with the announcement that the beloved store and label would be opening up their latest spot next month.
It won’t be a small venture, either. Denmark Street’s first record store will span across two floors with a vast amount of vinyl on offer for any record-obsessive. On top of the usual stock and limited edition records they run, you’ll also find books, clothing and merchandise all around in a store that will sit nicely alongside the guitar shops that surround it.
There will also be frequent in-store signings at Rough Trade Denmark Street, which sits close to Tottenham Court Road and will see upcoming partnerships with its nearby venues HERE and The Lower Third. It’s, of course, also a stone’s throw away from Rough Trade in Soho, which is set to rebrand as Rough Trade Vintage to sell used vinyl of older classics.
Speaking on the new opening, Lawrence Montgomery, Managing Director at Rough Trade UK said: “We are thrilled to bring Rough Trade to London’s iconic Denmark Street, a location that holds such a profound place in the city’s music history. Our new store will house an extensive selection of curated vinyl across all genres, as well as a specialist book selection and exclusive merchandise.
“With its rich heritage and ongoing legacy, Denmark Street is the perfect setting for our next chapter, fostering its own unique community, while also offering all the vibrancy and expertise customers have come to expect when visiting Rough Trade. We look forward to welcoming music fans to explore, discover and celebrate music and culture, continuing our tradition of being more than just a record store.”
Rough Trade will open up on Denmark Street in mid-October and will be the fourth store in the capital alongside Rough Trade West (Notting Hill), East (Brick Lane), and Soho.
