Reggae fans from around the world flock to Rototom Sunsplash each year.
Jamaica? No, she went of her own accord! To Benicassim, on Spain’s Mediterranean coast, that is, for one of the world’s largest celebrations of reggae, and associated good times. [Header photo: Tato Richieri © Rototom Sunsplash 2018.]
Returning for its 26th edition in 2019, the beach-adjacent Sunsplash welcomes 230,000 music lovers each year, and runs for a whopping seven days between August 16 – 22 – although the bulk of the syncopated action takes place across the opening weekend (Aug 16–18.)
The 2019 line-up features over 90 acts including Ziggy Marley, Chronixx, Busy Signal, but Rototom isn’t just about the music…
You’ll find tons of workshops, activities, talks dedicated to positivity, sustainability and all that groovy stuff. There’s even a Reggae University, though no telling if they’re offering degrees or not. Also, DID WE MENTON THE BEACH?
Chilled out vibes are the order of the day at Sunsplash, and it’s even endorsed by the local tourism folks as a great destination for families with kids, so there’ll be a diverse range of attendees and experiences no matter what kind of experience you’re looking for!
