Criado em 2005, o Mês da História LGBT+ é um evento anual, com a duração de um mês, destinado a aumentar a consciencialização e a combater o preconceito contra a comunidade LGBTQ+, celebrando simultaneamente as suas conquistas e diversidade. O evento surgiu na sequência da abolição da Secção 28 em 2003 e tem decorrido desde então.
O tema deste ano é “Under The Scope”, celebrando a contribuição das pessoas LGBT+ para o campo da medicina e dos cuidados de saúde, mas há tantas coisas fantásticas para fazer que honram todos os aspectos da vida queer.
Desde exposições imperdíveis a eventos e actividades de destaque, eis um resumo de dez locais na nossa querida capital onde pode aprender mais sobre a história LGBTQ+ para o Mês da História LGBT+ deste ano:
1. Leia sobre a instituição de caridade Queer Britain e visite o seu fantástico museu
A Queer Britain é uma instituição de caridade que foi criada em 2018 como um meio de estabelecer o primeiro museu nacional LGBTQ+ do Reino Unido para celebrar a história e a cultura LGBTQ+ e falar sobre as histórias e experiências dos povos queer. O referido museu, o Queer Britain Museum, foi inaugurado em 2022 e junta-se às fileiras dos museus gratuitos de Londres, oferecendo um dia atencioso e educativo – sem puxar pelos cordões à bolsa. O museu é comemorativo, representativo e informativo – permite que as comunidades queer do país encontrem um registo do seu passado e que olhem para o seu futuro.
A exposição galardoada “We Are Queer Britain!” (Nós somos a Grã-Bretanha queer) merece definitivamente uma visita. A exposição, que chegou pouco depois da abertura do museu, assinala o 50º aniversário da primeira Marcha do Orgulho do Reino Unido. É descrita como“um conjunto diversificado e rico de artefactos que culmina com vozes, objectos e imagens do mundo do ativismo, da arte, da cultura e da história social, cobrindo mais de 100 anos de vida queer“.

2. Siga a trilha “desejo, amor e identidade” no Museu Britânico
Outro lugar que vale a pena visitar neste Mês da História LGBT+ é o Museu Britânico, o maior, mais antigo e, sem dúvida, mais popular museu de Londres. Além disso, é quase tudo gratuito, por isso, se janeiro foi duro para a carteira, não há desculpa para não o visitar!
O percurso “Desejo, amor e identidade” destaca 15 objectos diferentes que têm uma ligação com a história LGBTQ+, e seguir o percurso demora apenas cerca de uma hora. Os objectos aqui expostos incluem a Taça Warren – um copo de vinho romano que mostra dois amantes masculinos entrelaçados e que foi proibido de ser exibido durante a maior parte do século XX – e a estátua dos Amantes de Ain Sakhri – que se acredita ser a escultura mais antiga do mundo de dois amantes.
Os géneros das figuras não são claros e estão completamente abertos à interpretação. A exposição é gratuita e está patente durante todo o ano.

3. Faça uma visita à livraria Gay’s The Word em Bloomsbury
Vender livros incríveis e também promover os direitos humanos – sabe o que dizem, arranje uma livraria que faça as duas coisas. Bem, na verdade não é isso que dizem. Mas se dissessem, certamente estariam a falar da Gay’s The Word, a icónica livraria londrina em Bloomsbury que tem estado no centro do movimento dos direitos LGBTQ+ da capital desde a sua abertura a 17 de janeiro de 1979.
Sendo a única livraria dedicada à comunidade LGBTQ+ em Inglaterra, rapidamente se estabeleceu como um espaço influente para os membros da comunidade se encontrarem, se apoiarem mutuamente e fazerem campanha, ultrapassando muita oposição no processo.
O grupo “Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners” realizou as suas primeiras reuniões na Gay’s The Word antes de ultrapassar o espaço, tendo o grupo e a livraria sido imortalizados no filme Pride. Uma placa azul comemorativa do cofundador do grupo e notável ativista dos direitos dos homossexuais, Mark Ashton, encontra-se por cima da loja. Se depois tiver fome, porque não ir até à Fork Deli – uma das nossas mercearias favoritas que fica mesmo ao fundo da rua.

4. Aprende sobre a história marítima queer no Museu Marítimo Nacional
Se alguma vez se encontrar no bairro de Greenwich, classificado pela UNESCO, então o Museu Marítimo Nacional é sempre um ótimo local para visitar. E, tal como o Museu Britânico, também é gratuito. Para celebrar o Mês da História LGBT+, o museu está a organizar um dia inteiro de workshops criativos, narração de histórias, actuações ao vivo e muito mais, no dia 17 de fevereiro, chamado “Out At Sea”, que é um festival completamente dedicado à história marítima queer.
Os Royal Museums of Greenwich não se ficam por aqui. Desfrute de uma visita especial e de uma palestra no Museu Marítimo Nacional intitulada Queer History Night: Cruising the National Maritime Museum (Noite da história queer: cruzeiro pelo Museu Marítimo Nacional). Ou, se estiver à procura de algo extra fabuloso, não deixe de visitar “Fierce Queens” – que reúne artistas e historiadores para uma noite inesquecível de libertação queer e representação LGBTQ+ na Queen’s House. 5. Tomar uma ou duas cervejas na instituição LGBTQ+, a Royal Vauxhall Tavern
Por falar em Vauxhall, este é um ponto obrigatório nesta lista de coisas para fazer no Mês da História LGBT+. O local é o refúgio de celebridades (incluindo a Princesa Diana e Freddie Mercury!), drag queens, e os grandes e bons da comunidade LGBTQ+, a história rica e célebre do Royal Vauxhall Tavern é um conto colorido, tecido no próprio tecido da vida nocturna de Londres.
De facto, é tão venerada que, em 2015, se tornou o primeiro edifício no Reino Unido a obter o estatuto de classificado de Grau II com base na sua importância para a comunidade LGBTQ+ em geral. O seu papel como centro de vida nocturna começou após a Segunda Guerra Mundial, quando os primeiros espectáculos de drags subiram ao palco, e é o local LGBTQ+ mais antigo do sul de Londres.
Desde então, tornou-se um pilar entre a comunidade em geral e oferece algumas das melhores e mais animadas noites da capital.

6. Dar uma volta pela biblioteca do Instituto Bishopsgate
Situado do outro lado da rua da Liverpool Street Station e perto do burburinho do Old Spitalfields Market, o Bishopsgate Institute tem sido um centro de cultura e aprendizado desde que abriu suas portas pela primeira vez no dia de Ano Novo em 1895.
Tem uma secção inteira dedicada à história LGBTQ+, com áreas específicas dedicadas a organizações como o Lesbian and Gay Newsmedia Archive, que contém cerca de 250.000 recortes de imprensa que relatam a experiência queer desde o final do século XIX. É também a sede do Museu de Transologia, a primeira coleção do género com a maior coleção do mundo de objectos que representam vidas trans.
Também têm uma série de eventos a decorrer durante todo o mês de fevereiro para o Mês da História LGBT+, incluindo visitas especializadas ao seu imbatível arquivo LGBTQ+.

7. Desfrutar de uma noite no icónico pub Admiral Duncan do Soho
O simpático Admiral Duncan é uma instituição LGBTQ+ situada bem no coração do Soho. Está aberto desde 1832 e tem sido um dos pilares da cena gay do Soho desde então. Atraindo um público regular, este pub de uma sala tem noites regulares de karaoke, cabaret e drags, bem como uma pequena pista de dança – perfeita para dançar depois de algumas bebidas!
Tragicamente, em abril de 1999, foi alvo de um ataque bombista neo-nazi que matou três pessoas e feriu mais de 70. Mostrando a verdadeira força do espírito comunitário LGBTQ+, o pub reabriu apenas algumas semanas depois e tem um candelabro em homenagem aos que infelizmente morreram, dizendo “nunca esqueceremos os nossos amigos“. É um ótimo local para aprender sobre o Mês da História LGBT+ e beber uns copos com alguns amigos.

8. Faça a trilha ‘Seeing Things Queerly’ no nosso amado Museu da Ciência
O nosso icónico Museu da Ciência é conhecido pelas suas exposições magistrais e imersão inovadora. No entanto, oferece uma forma única de honrar e celebrar o Mês da História LGBT+. Faça uma visita este mês e siga o seu percurso autoguiado para descobrir uma infinidade de objectos que contam histórias de comunidades, experiências e identidades que er, legitimamente intitulado “Seeing Things Queerly”.
Desde testemunhar o voo de um caça da Segunda Guerra Mundial e uma história comovente sobre um piloto transgénero até aprender tudo sobre Alan Turing, que criou o primeiro computador de uso geral do mundo, há tantas histórias LGBTQ+ a serem descobertas neste museu adorado. 9. Participe numa excursão LBGTQ+ na prestigiada Tate Britain
Mais um museu gratuito aqui – vencedor, vencedor! De quinze em quinze dias, a Tate Britain oferece uma nova e única visita guiada LGBTQ+. As visitas são conduzidas por guias voluntários com experiência de vida nas obras e temas que estão a discutir. E não se limitam a abordar obras contemporâneas. As visitas exploram uma grande variedade de obras, tanto da coleção histórica da Tate Britain (obras de 1540-1910) como da coleção contemporânea (1930 até à atualidade).
Enquanto passeia pela galeria, poderá “descobrir as narrativas dos menos visíveis na coleção da Tate através da lente da identidade de género e da sexualidade“ – parece-nos bastante intrigante! Pode saber mais sobre as visitas guiadas aqui.

10. Descobre o queerness na natureza no Chelsea Physic Garden
Fundado em 1973, o Chelsea Physic Garden é um dos mais antigos jardins botânicos da Europa, situado junto ao rio Tamisa. Os jardins estão a celebrar a diversidade, tanto em pessoas como em plantas, com uma série de eventos e coisas para fazer em fevereiro, intitulados A Dash of Lavender: Celebrando o Mês da História LGBTQ+.
Há um trilho de jardim especialmente concebido , uma exposição e um programa de eventos ao longo do mês. Há até uma leitura de poesia botânica e uma noite de comédia “Unnatural Selection”, se quiser socializar e conviver com pessoas que pensam como você!

11. Fazer a visita guiada LGBTQIA+ ao icónico Tate Modern
Mencionámos o local irmão anteriormente, e agora é altura do grande. A Tate Modern vai organizar três visitas guiadas à sua coleção numa perspetiva queer, explorando o ícone brutalista através das lentes da identidade de género e da sexualidade.

12. Percorrer a história queer da cidade com o Museu de Londres
Ao longo do Mês da História LGBT+, o Museu de Londres irá proporcionar passeios a pé pela cidade, descobrindo histórias anteriormente escondidas da narrativa. Desde as dificuldades e lutas queer até ao amor e ao romance, aprenda tudo o que há para saber sobre a vida londrina enquanto pessoa queer ao longo da história.
Os destaques do passeio incluem uma paragem no Royal Exchange, aprender sobre o queerness em Roman Londinium, e muito mais. Vale a pena notar que o Museu de Londres está atualmente fechado, mas as excursões devem continuar, com o seu novo museu a abrir em 2026.

13. Desfrute de uma exibição especial de ‘Firebird’ no The London Art Bar
Visite o The London Art Bar, em Holborn, em fevereiro, para uma projeção especial de “Firebird” (2021) em comemoração do Mês da História LGBT+! O London Art Bar é um bar de vinhos e cocktails que organiza este evento especial para apoiar o Albert Kennedy Trust, uma instituição de caridade dedicada a ajudar pessoas LGBTQ+ sem-abrigo.
Este filme comovente conta uma poderosa história de amor tendo como pano de fundo uma base da Força Aérea Soviética, explorando temas de identidade, resiliência e espírito humano. “Firebird” foi exibido em festivais de cinema em todo o mundo, tendo recebido vários prémios.
