Calling all musical theatre lovers, especially fans of a certain drag musical set in the Australian outback, we’ve got your next big night out sorted. London’s newest biggest night out takes The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and turns it into an extravagant immersive experience. Ladies and gentlemen and drag kings and queens alike, may we present for your partying pleasure – Priscilla The Party!
That’s right folks, It started as an Oscar-winning movie. Then it became a Tony Award- and Olivier Award-winning musical. And now, for the very first time, the show seen by “7 million people in 135 cities and 30 countries around the world” will become an “all-singing, all-dancing immersive party and musical theatre extravaganza!”
And we don’t have long to wait to experience it, either. Priscilla The Party! opens at Soho’s HERE @ Outernet venue on March 25.
So… what is Priscilla The Party!?
Not sure what to expect? Okay, let us set the scene. Picture the partying, dining, and drinking experience that is Mamma Mia! The Party – and make it even more camp (somehow!). Now, picture the ABBA Voyage experience, and think of that joyful sing-along atmosphere. And now throw some cabaret into the mix (a la Cabaret), add an immersive dance floor (think Guys and Dolls), and even add a sprinkling of pre-show entertainment (like the National Theatre’s Here Lies Love). Got all that? Mash all of that up into one exhilarating glitzy night out and you’ve got Priscilla The Party!
The experience runs through the same story as the movie (which was released 30 years ago) and the stage musical (which premiered in London 18 years ago). Throughout the night guests will be treated to the “heart-warming, uplifting story of three friends who hop aboard a battered old bus searching for love and friendship and end up finding more than they could have ever dreamed of.”
Now, naturally, it couldn’t be a Priscilla experience without some eye-catching looks and incredible visuals. Well, how’s this for stunning – the entertainment will feature 500 costumes, 200 head-dresses, and a jam-packed playlist of dancefloor favourites.
Director Simon Phillips said:
“We’ve been telling theatregoers this story in over 30 countries now, for nearly two decades and, no matter where we have played around the world, multi-generational, diverse audiences – actually, anyone intent on having a good time – have felt more than welcome at a Priscilla show. Given the immense mainstream visibility and recognition drag is enjoying, there has surely never been a better time to celebrate this heartfelt tale of love, friendship and acceptance and this spectacular, interactive production will embrace its audience, immersing them in an experience they will never forget.”
Tickets are now on sale. Priscilla The Party! opens on March 25, with previews from March 3.
