One of the most delightful things to do each winter, when that Christmas feeling starts to fill the air, is get cosy with a blanket and watch Christmas films. But something even more delightful is the chance to watch Christmas classics on the big screen. And cult London cinema, the Prince Charles Cinema, is going big this year with its annual Christmas programming – screening one particular classic film almost every day in December.
Now, while some might argue about this, it is a truth (almost) universally acknowledged that the best Christmas film is The Muppet Christmas Carol. And clearly the team at the Prince Charles Cinema agrees. Because they’re screening The Muppet Christmas Carol (almost) every day this December in the run-up to Christmas. They’ll be skipping a few days early in the month, but making up for it with some late November screenings, too.
The Christmas classic, which stars Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge alongside a cast of Muppets, is the perfect family-friendly flick to welcome in the season. And the Prince Charles Cinema will even host sing-along screenings for fans to join in on the fun – with the bonus ‘lost scene’ too!

As well as showing The Muppet Christmas Carol (almost) every single day until Christmas, the Prince Charles Cinema is hosting a plethora of other screenings and events. They’re showing everything from Love Actually to The Holdovers, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and more.
Alternative Christmas films
But what if you’re sick of the classics? What if you’ve watched all of these saccharine Christmas movies one too many times, and you want something different? Well, you’re in luck, because the Prince Charles Cinema is also programming a special selection of ‘Alt. Xmas’ films – aka “Festive favourites that aren’t very festive”.
If you have a look at the full list of Christmas movie screenings, you’ll probably be shocked at just how many Christmas movies there are, and how many movies are set around Christmas time! There are all sorts of alternative and quirky options to choose from, too, including horror films and more.
As part of the ‘Alt. Xmas’ programming, the Prince Charles Cinema is screening everything from Tokyo Godfathers to Batman Returns, Eyes Wide Shut and, of course, Die Hard. And yes, before you even try to argue, Die Hard is OBVIOUSLY a Christmas film. This doesn’t even bear arguing about anymore – it even has a time-honoured plot about a family getting back together thanks to the magic of Christmas!
