Whip out your flat-caps and don your finest pearls; we’re travelling back in time to mark one whole year since the new-and-improved Battersea Power Station opened its doors to the public for the very first time. The ‘Behind the Bricks’ festival is being held to honour the first anniversary, and visitors will be transported all the way back to the decade in which one half of the iconic Power Station was built.
As part of the celebratory festival, Battersea Power Station will be hosting a 1950s-style hair and beauty pop-up parlour. The ‘Power Parlour’ will offer a unique range of treatments, paying homage to the style-defining decade. From rock ‘n’ roll to Hollywood glamour and everything in between; the pop-up parlour will make sure every visitor leaves feeling like a 50s movie-star.
The blow-dry menu will be courtesy of Blush + Blow, whilst the make-up magicians over at MAC Cosmetics will be on hand with their iconic range of beauty products. Ruby Woo, anyone? London barbers, R. W. Wolf, will also be offering their treatments and styling services so that everybody can get the glow-up of their dreams.
Topping-off the time-travelling experience is 1950s-inspired all-day-bar, Control Room B. They’ll be serving up some deliciously thirst-quenching cocktails (in partnership with Hendrick’s Gin and Atopia Non-Alcoholic Spirit), for guests to sip-on during their treatments.
The parlour will be (victory) rolling into Turbine Hall B this Saturday (October 21) and will be open until October 29. Treatments with R. W. Wolf and MAC will be available on a walk-in basis only. Appointments with Blush + Blow can be booked in advance.
In addition to the Power Parlour, the ‘Behind the Bricks’ festival will include expert panel talks, guided tours, exclusive access to the beautifully restored Art Deco Control Room A, and a plethora of family-friendly activities. So get yourself over to Battersea Power Station and join in the celebrations in style.
