Word on the street has a new Padella coming to Shoreditch.
Queuing is, quite obviously, a British pastime – witness the snaking behemoth that winds around Wimbledon each year. Another of the most famous queues in the capital is to be found in Borough Market, where hordes of carb-hungry punters await the chance to get inside Padella, the brilliant pasta spot that’s often cited as the city’s best. Fingers crossed that queue gets a tad shorter this year, as they’ve officially confirmed the opening of a new spot in Shoreditch, opening in early 2020.
News of the new Padella initially emanated from the largest possible rumour mill available to humankind: Twitter. Keen-eyed Rosie Percy spotted the licensing application for a spot in Shoreditch, at 1 Phipp Street. Today, the restaurant have officially confirmed the news, and you can consider us officially excited.
Padella has made its name off the back of truly special pasta at surprisingly affordable prices, and the ever-present queue always helps to pique interest. For context, I went along on a frozen Monday morning in December, still wound up queuing for an hour, and sat outside to save ten more minutes of waiting – and it was worth every bloody minute. With hype this huge, there’s a chance it could disappoint, but by some alchemy of carb, cheese, and meat, Padella somehow exceeds it.
All great news then, but here’s possibly the best. We can make the tentative assumption that two Padellas = half the queue length. Unless of course two Padellas results in two equally massive queues. At that stage, I guess we’d just have to demand a third…
