Talk to someone with a passing interest in movies and then turn to another with a degree in film studies and a high-brow taste… they will tell you the exact same thing: Paddington is a cinematic masterpiece. And so is the sequel.
It’s as unanimous an opinion that you’ll find in the world of British film – and the news Paddington 3 has a start date for filming is certain to unite the nation at a time of need. Or at the very least see sales of marmalade skyrocket.
We did already know that the third installment of Paddington was on the way, but after a slight delay to the start of filming everyone’s favourite Peruvian bear, the wheels are officially back in motion.
Back in 2021, it was said that filming for the next chapter of Michael Bond’s story would begin the following year, but, evidently, we are well past that point now. It was then rumoured that the film, with the reportedly working title of Paddington In Peru, would start filming in both London and Peru in 2023.
Since then, the news about the famous bear has been scarce, though he did star in a sketch with the late Queen Elizabeth II for the Monarch’s Platinum Jubilee, and also have his iconic statue at Paddington Station move location.
So when is Paddington 3 happening?
Now, we have an update that feels just as sweet as a marmalade sandwich. According to Deadline, Paddington 3 is set to commence filming on July 24, 2023. With the title Paddington In Peru, it will see Paddington Bear return to the country of his birth, six years on from Paddington 2.
More details on the film’s plot are still thin on the ground, but it has been confirmed that Dougal Wilson will be on directing duties for the picture.
While there is still no firm release date for Paddington 3, fans will no doubt be whipping out their blue coats and red hats to celebrate the confirmation of Michael Bond’s beloved character returning to our screens.
