Crowds Gather On Oxford Street As Non-Essential Stores Open For The First Time Since Lockdown Began

Oxford Street has opened up the doors of its countless retailers for the first time since the nationwide lockdown began.

And many, it seems, have missed a good ol’ shopping spree. Judging by the photos surfacing online this morning, you’d be forgiven for thinking they were rushing out to the Boxing Day sales. (Featured image: @mrsuperadvisor, Instagram)

Social distancing measures have been put in place on Oxford Street. However, with this many shoppers rushing out at once, they will be difficult to enforce. While some queues look orderly and distanced (how very British of them), others have started to look a little less controlled.

Some Oxford Street shoppers have queued since the early hours to get the first pick at stores such as Primark and the Nike store. And, like most things in this vein during the COVID-19 pandemic, the internet had plenty of things to say about it.
