If you’ve got a late journey on the Northern line’s Bank branch coming up from today (January 12), you may need to re-plan part of your journey. That’s because the middle, most central London-ny portion of the line will close early on Monday-Thursday from early January for a few months.
Eight stations will be out of action on weeknights from 10pm between today and the end of May, so we’re looking at over four months of affected routes on the Northern line in the evenings, with a revised timetable also beginning at around 9:30pm each day. The entire Bank branch is due to run as normal on Friday-Sunday.

Which stations are affected by the early Northern line closures on the Bank branch?
Trains will not be running between King’s Cross and Elephant & Castle. These are all stops that will be affected:
- King’s Cross St Pancras
- Angel
- Old Street
- Moorgate
- Bank
- London Bridge
- Borough
- Elephant & Castle
According to TfL, an extra four trains an hour will run on the Charing Cross branch of the Northern line on the dates of the closures on the Bank branch.
Why is part of the Nothern line’s Bank Branch closing early during this time?
TfL have said the early closures are taking place in order to carry out extra engineering work for track replacements, with this method said to be the most efficient and meaning there won’t be a need to implement full weekend closures for the works.
Speaking on the news of the early closures on the Northern line, TfL’s Director of Asset Performance Delivery Richard Jones said: “We apologise to Northern line customers and local businesses for the disruption that the early closure of the Bank branch will cause.
“This is to enable us to carry out essential track replacement work to improve the reliability of the line in future and would be very challenging to complete within normal engineering hours. Customers are advised to check before they travel, using TfL’s real-time travel information tools to find the quickest alternative for their specific journey.”
Revised Northern line timetable during early closures
- Kennington to Morden will run on a 3-4 minute service, with 18 trains per hour (usually 20).
- Kennington to Battersea Power Station will run on a 10-minute service, with six trains per hour (usually 10).
- Camden Town to High Barnet will run on a five-minute service, with 12 trains per hour (usually 16).
- Camden Town to Edgware will run on five-minute service, with 12 trains per hour (usually 20).
- Finchley Central to Mill Hill East won’t have a change to scheduling, with four trains per hour, though there will be no service through central London after 10pm.
Early closures to eight stations on the Bank branch of the Northern line will take place for over four months from January 12, 2026 (Monday-Thursday only). Passengers are advised to check their route before travelling.
