A photography exhibition that captures the frenetic and frantic experience of seeing Nine Inch Nails as they toured their seminal record, The Downward Spiral [1994], is opening up in London next month.
Taking photos Trent Reznor and co. as they went out on the Self Destruct global tour, Jonathan Rach, a friend of the band and documentarian who captured the shots between 1994-1996, is putting on the display of his work from October 16-20.
‘The Downward Spiral’ exhibition shows off Jonathan Rach’s photos from the tour, many of which have not been seen for more than 25 years. Fans will be treated to more than 30 photos from the Self Destruct world tour, and also see a collection of other artists including David Bowie and Lou Reed (both vital influences on Trent Reznor, and therefore Nine Inch Nails). Plus, you’ll get to fast forward into their career and see snaps including those from the six-night Nine Inch Nails residency at the Hollywood Palladium from 2018.
Speaking on the exhibition Jonathan Rach “To be able to show this collection of photography after some 25 years and see how fans connected to them has been such a rewarding and unexpected gift.
“I am looking forward to meeting everyone and showing some of the new images I’ve recently found and talking about these captured moments in music history as part of the celebration in London.”

If you head over to the Behind The Gallery exhibition on the Saturday (October 19), there will also be a talk from Rach himself and a Q&A, which is due to take place at 12:30pm.
First showing in Australia, the photography arrives in London at 2 Hoxton Street, and coincides with this year’s 30th anniversary of The Downward Spiral – a record that still feels vital and forward-thinking today.
Nine Inch Nails also added: “Our friend Jonathan Rach’s photography exhibition is celebrating his iconic photos taken during NIN’s 1994-1996 ‘Self Destruct’ tour.”
Jonathan Rach’s exhibition is only around for a few days, so be sure to head on over while it’s here. It’d be Heresy not to – I’ll see you there.
‘The Downward Spiral’ exhibition will run at 2 Hoxton Street, N1 6NG (nearest station is Old Street) from October 16-20. Find out more at the Behind The Gallery page.
