As somebody with wanderlust coursing through their veins, a great deal of my time is spent wistfully watching people on social media heading off on their holidays to explore gorgeous new cities. My algorithm has read me like a guide book, and is constantly serving me up big old dollops of travel content. But because everywhere looks so darn enticing, it’s difficult to know which city should be catapulted straight to the top of my must-visit list.
Well, it seems as though my travel prayers have finally been answered, as the lovely lot over at Titan Travel have done the research for me. They dove headfirst into TikTok, Instagram, and search engine data from across the past three years, giving each city a ‘social travel score’ in order to discover which city destination is actually the most popular. And the results are in, folks.
The most popular city destination
Just one city came out ahead of London – and seeing as our trophy cabinet is already full to bursting, we’re happy to let this one slide. Topping the city break charts is, in fact, Nice. Earning itself a social travel score of 8.42 out of 10 (just marginally more than London’s score of 8.17); the cultural capital of the French Riviera has nabbed the title of ‘most popular city destination‘.
Nice is a picture-perfect city, surrounded by breathtakingly blue water. It’s small but mighty; easy to walk around but plenty to do and see. And the best part? You can fly there and back from London for less than £100.
Nice took the top spot with over 10 million TikTok users having created content about it, alongside 94 million Instagram posts. The city is just 8 miles from Monaco and 19 miles from Italy, so plenty of onward exploring can be done from there. It all sounds pretty nice to me…
