Ahhh, Gatwick. One of my very favourite places. Filled to the brim with excitement, anticipation, and cheap bottles of booze. What’s not to love? Well, it’s just become an even more desirable place to be, as the major airport (the second largest in the country, FYI) has recently unveiled a list of 14 shiny new routes that will be launching this summer.
If your summer calendar isn’t already bursting at the seams – and you didn’t foolishly use up your entire annual leave allowance within the first three months of the year (not that I’m speaking from experience, or anything); you’ll now have a few more options to add to your ‘to visit’ list. In fact, Gatwick passengers now have a whopping 223 destinations from 56 different airlines to choose from. Delightful for adventure-seeking Londoners; less so for the more indecisive among us.
Included in the 14 new routes are direct flights to Guangzhou in China, Salerno in Italy, Ponta Delgada in The Azores, and Erbil in Iraq. The new routes will see ITA Airways, Atlantic Airways, Azores Airlines, Singapore Airlines and FlyErbil operate flights from Gatwick Airport for the very first time. Direct flights to Bangkok, Bengaluru and Islamabad are also set to launch later in the year.
Stephanie Wear, the vice president of Aviation Development at Gatwick, said: “It’s fantastic that London Gatwick can offer passengers such an exciting range of destinations this summer, whether for holidays, visiting family and friends, or business trips.”
