It’s the country’s busiest transport hub, and it will soon become one of the city’s most modern and up-to-date stations. I’m talking, of course, about Liverpool Street Station and plans for an impressive redevelopment of the station. Network Rail has been releasing images throughout the last year with visualisations of what they hope to achieve with the works, and now they’ve released a fly-through video that really demonstrates how much will change.
Take a look at what the station is expected to look like when the works are completed:

The new plans aim to make it more spacious and modern, with better facilities for passengers. Visitors will be able to benefit from wider platforms, improved accessibility, more space, and a smoother flow of people. Plans to open up the space’s entrance and exit area will also make the whole station feel much lighter and airier.
As well as improvements to the station itself, Network Rail is also promising “[a] greater variety of cafes, restaurants and shops”. Outside, a new office building will be built over the station concourse, alongside a 200-room hotel. These will purportedly “generate the funds to pay for these improvements.”

Redevelopment of Liverpool Street Station
If you’ve travelled through Liverpool Street Station at all, especially at peak times, you’ll no doubt be aware that the space can sometimes feel cramped. At the busiest of times, it can almost seem like it’s overflowing with people, with travellers, commuters, and tourists alike filling the space. And it’s only expected to get busier!
As Network Rail explains:
“Last month, Liverpool Street was crowned Britain’s busiest railway station for the third year in a row, recording almost 100 million rail entries and exits in addition to underground customers. With passenger numbers forecast to rise to 158 million by 2041, the proposed redevelopment is designed to ensure the station is future-proofed and ready to accommodate more than 200 million people in the decades ahead.”

According to Network Rail, the Liverpool Street Station redevelopment is “one of the most supported planning applications ever submitted to the City of London.”
